1st Chemo

First of all – 2 weeks to the day of her amputation Maggie went up the stair to the bedroom.  3 weeks of sleeping in the dining room appear to be over.  Hurrah!!!

Met with the oncologist Wed for her 1st treatment.  The Dr recommended Carboplatin every 3 weeks for 4 treatments.  We had a scare because the blood work came back with elevated liver numbers.  He did an ultrasound and looked at most of her organs and did not see any issues.  Recheck her liver in 1 month.   Since there is no visible spreading of the cancer – he expects her to have about 1 year.  We’re doing everything we can to give her that at least.

She had no side effects from the chemo.  Eating normally, wants to go for a walk, goes up and down the stairs with no problem.   Life is getting closer to back to normal.

  1. What great news! We were very pleased with Carboplatin. No side effects whatsoever. Nova did 4 rounds of carbo, and after 14 months she is still healthy and free of cancer! We wish the same results for Maggie!!

  2. Hey,

  3. YAY!!! No more sleeping in the Dining Room is AWESOME!!! And that’s also great news that she did so well with the chemo…did the doctor give her any anti-nausea pills just in case? Jack was on adriamycin and I gave him pills as a precaution (he didn’t have any symptoms until his last treatment when he had diarrhea for 1 day). Might be a good thing to have on hand just in cases 🙂 Thanks for the super news, and I hope she continues to surprise you. Her pic is adorable…even with her nose covered in sand, she still manages to look so “proper” 🙂

  4. Yes – the dr did give her something for nausea. But so far she is VERY happy to eat morning and night. We have 3 more to go, so she’ll get it if she needs it.
She already surprised me this morning – came upstairs when i was already up there without my hovering over her. I think she is tired of the hovering, but certainly
not tired of the love and attention! Today we’ll try a longer walk and see how she does. She is much more comfortable off leash – so we just run along side of her. Good workout for everyone.

  5. Oh my Maggie! That’s really great news! Maggie is so precious and loved!!I’m a little sad you won’t be sleeping near the kitchen table any longer… I sort of liked your bohemian lifestyle 🙂

  6. We’re glad to hear Maggie is doing so well! Holly had her first round of Carboplatin on Tuesday, so they are on similar schedules for their chemo. That’s wonderful she’s getting around so well, too! Enjoy those walk/runs!

  7. Great that Maggie hasn’t shown any side effects from the chemo. Mackenzie has and I have to give her anti-nausea pills (two types) for the first several days. Plus the doctor lowered her dosage of carboplatin. We are going on our 4th chemo treatment tomorrow. Sounds like Maggie is adjusting well and feeling back to normal again. Great to hear!
